Community writng and Memory project

Do you know Crewkerne Station? Have you travelled from here?
We would like to hear from you.
This year on July 18th is the 160th anniversary of the opening of Crewkerne Station which happened with great celebration and the attendance of 10,000 yes 10,000 people in the pouring rain to see the first train in. It was pulled in by no fewer than three locomotives Britannia, Montrose and Vulcan and contained the Chairman, Charles Mangles MP and members of the Rail Company who got out to be met with a speech by Mr Bird of Crewkerne who was accompanied by a number of dignitaries.
As part of the celebration we would like to invite railway travellers and the community of Crewkerne to contribute their memories or poems or photos about the station.
You may not have been a regular railway traveller but just taken a trip up to London or shopping to Exeter. We would like to hear from you and are planning to include entries in an exhibition in the station waiting room and at the Town Hall from July 18th. We are hopiong to get lots of entries so that we can make a folder to keep as part of the station history.
There will be spot prizes for anything of particular interest or skill, or just catches our eye.
You can send your entry marked clearly with your name and e mail or postal address to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or the website http://www.crewkernetown.org/friendsofcrewkernestation/ or use our Facebook site or post to the station at Crewkerne Station, Station Road, Crewkerne TA18 8AU.
